SHILLONG: The CoMSO on Saturday decided to continue with its protest to demand implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and also to pressure the State Government. “Therefore, today we decided to meet the traditional heads like the Syiems, Nokmas, Dollois and Rangbah Shnongs,” CoMSO chairman, Robertjune Kharjahrin said.

It may be mentioned that the CoMSO had resolved to seek suggestions from prominent citizens of the State on how to go forward to make the movement for demanding ILP from the Centre, stronger. Kharjahrin, also informed that last week they met academicians and prominent elders and sought suggestions so that it can become a “people’s movement”.

The CoMSO chairman also said that they will be holding public meeting in all the district headquarters of the State.

“We have decided soon after seeking suggestions and discussion with the prominent citizens and asking for their support, we will start a strong movement to demand ILP,” Kharjahrin said.

He said that it seems the Centre is turning a blind eye to the protests by the citizens of the State against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to the demand of implementation of ILP. Therefore, Kharjahrin said that the CoMSO is holding consultations with stakeholders of the State to make the movement stronger so that the government of India takes notice.

When asked if it was the failure of State Government to demand ILP from the Centre that led to the current situation in the State, the CoMSO chairman said, “If the Centre rejects the ILP resolution of the Meghalaya Assembly the responsibility will have to be borne by the Chief Minister, his Cabinet colleagues and the MLAs. We have elected them to ensure that they protect our State. If they can’t the responsibility is on them. We cannot deny it.”
