CoMSO leaders lambast Health Minister AL Hek over Inner Line Permit

SHILLONG: Vice-chairman of the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) Lawyerson War and joint secretary Mawkordor Kharsyiemlieh have strongly condemned the statement made by Health Minister AL Hek on ILP.

It may be mentioned that the BJP leader and Cabinet Minister had stated that only 30 thousand people in Meghalaya are supporting the movement to immediately implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State.

“His statement has mislead the people of the State on this issue and what he has said is childish and day by day he is making rubbish comments on this issue,” War said on Saturday.

The CoMSO leader also asked Minister Hek on when he had conducted the survey to determine who is supporting ILP and who are not in favour.

“If he had conducted such a survey, he should give the exact number of those people in favour of the ILP along with their names and titles and the same goes for those opposing the ILP and this should be placed in the public domain,” he said.

The two CoMSO leaders further alleged that they are of the opinion that Hek has been misleading the Home Ministry in Delhi on this issue with an objective that the Centre will strongly oppose the implementation of the ILP in Meghalaya.

“We clearly know that Hek over the years continued to win MLA elections because of non-tribal votes and maybe now he is trying to increase their numbers in our State for his personal gain because depending only on Khasi and Garo votes, he will never win an election,” the CoMSO leaders said.

The CoMSO leader further warned the BJP Minister not to make such statements in the near future because it will only add fuel to the fire of local youths who are bent on implementation of the ILP in the State.
