Guwahati: More areas in the East Khasi Hills district have been contained to arrest the spread of the rampaging novel coronavirus on the orders of the Deputy Magistrate of the district, War Nongbri.

In an order issued on 4th September 2020, the DC has declared the house of Mrs. Sushila Gewali, Nepali Compound, Rilbong, and the apartment of Mrs. Pronoti Choudhary, Chinmoy Paul Building, Rilbong (near Beat House) as containment areas with effect from with immediate effect to restrict the unregulated entry and exit movement on site.

In another order issued on September 4, the DC has declared the house of Gulam Mustafa, (Behind Rock Wood Compound), M.G. Road, Shillong as a containment area with effect from 4th September 2020 to prevent further spread of the pathogen.

The orders state that no person or public shall be allowed to move into the containment area and inhabitants within the containment area shall not move out; besides all inhabitants within the containment area shall strictly remain inside their home.

Gatherings, events, functions whatsoever of any nature and forms including social, political, religious, economic activities shall not be allowed.

In the contained areas, shopping establishments shall be closed and the supply of essential and medical requirements for purchase will be ensured through various teams formed by the District Administration.

All Government and private institutions located within the boundary of the containment area are to close forthwith, till further orders.

The orders, however, will not apply to health workers and essential workers of the Shillong Municipal Board, press including electronic and print media, petrol pumps, and LPG delivery workforce.

The order also states that any violation of the order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and I.P.C.

Meanwhile, based on the contact tracing status and testing of the high-risk contacts, the DC has lifted the containment for the building of S. Syiem at New Kench's Trace in Bishnupur with effect from September 4. In another order, the DC has lifted the containment for the Md. Salim Compound at Lower Mawprem with effect from September 4.
