The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District has announced ex gratia of Rs.4 lakhs to families of deceased persons. The DC in a press release issued on Monday said that the relief in the form of ex-gratia payment is applicable for all cases of persons deceased due to natural calamity, including those involved in relief operations or associated in preparedness activity, subject to certification regarding the cause of death from an appropriate authority.

The amount will be paid by the Deputy Commissioner from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). The press release said that the family or next of kin of the people who have lost their lives during the recent natural calamities in East Khasi Hills District may approach the Office of the DC, East Khasi Hills District for claiming of the ex-gratia payment as admissible under the norms.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, over 900 people in 37 villages across East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, and Ri Bhoi district have been affected by continuous heavy rainfall.

Many parts of Meghalaya have witnessed floods and landslide due to incessant rainfall, leading to widespread damage.
