‘Government Must Exercise Caution’ Says Adelbert Nongrum

SHILLONG: The MLA of North Shillong constituency, Adelbert Nongrum has said that the government should not consider the request of Them Iew Mawlong residents for reopening of the road so that they can resume their business. He added that it would not be a right decision on the part of the government to reopen the road at the moment.

“As the local MLA of the area I also have an opinion on the matter and if the government makes a mistake in their decision I will also have to take up the matter seriously,” Nongrum said while speaking to The Sentinel.

He, however, expressed hope that the Government of Meghalaya including the High Level Committee (HLC) will first take the various stakeholders into confidence and evolve a consensus on the issue.

Pointing out that in the past many had lost their lives in various agitations over the matter he added that therefore the State government should come out with a solution on this matter at the earliest.

Nongrum further stated that if the Government takes a wrong decision then they should take the full responsibility of its outcome.
