SHILLONG: In a heartfelt appeal infused with environmental zeal and youthful vision, the Indian Students’ Organization (ISO) has written to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, seeking an urgent appointment to present their ambitious plan to restore Byrnihat’s former glory through a large-scale plantation of Jacaranda trees.

“Byrnihat was once a thriving tourist haven,” the ISO wrote in the letter, “but pollution has since cast a shadow over its charm.” The organization proposes to transform the area into an ecological paradise adorned with the vibrant purple blooms of Jacaranda trees.

“We want to turn Byrnihat into a purple canvas of hope and renewal,” the letter continued. “These trees are not only breathtakingly beautiful but also serve as natural air purifiers.”

ISO President Durlav Talukdar outlined the organization’s approach, which includes collaborating with local communities, schools, and environmentalists to plant and nurture Jacarandas. The group also envisions launching a signature “Jacaranda Festival” to promote eco-tourism and celebrate the region’s botanical revival.

Lauding the chief minister’s progressive leadership, ISO expressed hope that he would support their mission. “Your visionary leadership makes you the perfect partner for this cause,” they wrote, requesting a brief meeting. “Let’s make Byrnihat bloom again.”

The ISO, a pan-India network of environmentally conscious students, believes this initiative could serve as a model for sustainable development and redefine eco-tourism in Meghalaya. Their message concluded with a powerful call to action: “With your support, we can paint it purple and bring back its glory.”
