Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) Expresses Surprise over Nongrum’s claim

SHILLONG: The Mawlai Constituency Committee (MCC) of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has expressed their surprise on the claims made by lone party MLA Adelbert Nongrum that he is the new president of the party.

S Mylliemumlong Secretary, KHNAM-MCC questioned that how can Nongrum claim to be the new president of the party when the general convention to elected new office bearers to the party was not held.

“This clearly shows that the MLA wants more power over the party and is willing to bulldoze voices of many units of the party in different constituencies of the state,” he said.

He said the MLA should have first concentrated on issues affecting the people of the state like issues concerning Inner Line Permit (ILP) and Sweeper Lane which falls under his constituency however Nongrum is engage in trying to destroy the party (KHNAM).

He also said that the Election Commission of India has no right to select the president of the party and its members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) however selection should be done through the general convention of KHNAM.
