SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) strongly opposes the move of the NDA Government to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, which is aimed at granting citizenship to people belonging to minority communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The party pointed out that the passage of this Bill will only add fuel to the already raging fire (influx issue) and would legitimise all the illegal migrants who have been staying illegally for many years and will have an adverse impact on the demographic structure of the state.

This is not acceptable. It is totally against the interest of our microscopic indigenous community. The KHNAM strongly demands that this Bill should not be applicable in the whole of North East India.
