SHILLONG: Meghalaya recorded five COVID-19 deaths in the last 24-hours taking the total number of fatalities to 669. Of the five new deaths, East Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills districts recorded two each and Ri-Bhoi one. The State again recorded more recoveries than fresh infections bringing a marginal decrease in the active cases.

According to Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War, in the last 24 hours, the State recorded 689 recoveries and 438 fresh infections.

Of the 438 new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 206, West Jaintia Hills (115), Ri-Bhoi (60), East Jaintia Hills (16), West Garo Hills (15), East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills six each, South West Khasi Hills (five), West Khasi Hills (four), North Garo Hills (three) and South West Garo Hills (two).

With the latest figures, the State now has 5,327 active cases and 33,160 persons have so far recovered from the virus.

The district-wise distribution of the active cases are – East Khasi Hills (2,220), West Garo Hills (649), West Jaintia Hills (638), Ri-Bhoi (591), South West Garo Hills (335), South West Khasi Hills (231), East Jaintia Hills (183), North Garo Hills (151), West Khasi Hills (139), East Garo Hills (102) and South Garo Hills (88).

The district-wise distribution of the fatalities is – East Khasi Hills (528), West Jaintia Hills (51), West Garo Hills (32), Ri-Bhoi (18), East Jaintia Hills (11), West Khasi Hills (eight), South West Garo Hills (seven), North Garo Hills (five), South Garo Hills (four), South West Khasi Hills (three) and East Garo Hills (two).
