"It has been found that overspeeding, irresponsible, reckless, and drunk driving, etc. are important contributing factors in majority of the fatal incidents," EJH SP Jagpal Singh Dhanoa recently said to media.
The district police has urged the general public, particularly young drivers of both four and two wheel vehicles, to refrain from reckless and dangerous driving while on the road because it endangers not only the lives of the drivers and passengers inside the vehicle but also the lives of other commuters and pedestrians.
In addition, Meghalaya has a lot of accident-prone "dark areas" that are very common. On such dangerous sites, the government has still implemented extra safety precautions. Historically, road traffic accidents have occurred more often in certain areas, known as accident black spots.
