SHILLONG: An army colonel stationed in Shillong tragically perished on Wednesday after being struck by a speeding car.

Col. Ramesh Rathore was reportedly struck by a car at around 5 o'clock in the evening as he was leaving his office. He was brought to a hospital but died from his wounds even while receiving care.

"In tragic news, Col. Ramesh Rathore of the 12 Armd Regt, assigned as Col. A. HQ. 101 Area Shillong, was killed after being struck by a speeding Scorpio as he was making his way to work at around 5 o'clock, " Defense PRO at Guwahati's said.

On November 18, the colonel's final rites would be performed in his hometown of Ghanau Sadulpur hamlet in the Churu district of Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Col. Ramesh Rathore passed away, and the Defence PRO in Guwahati expressed their condolences and noted that his son had recently joined the NDA.

"Body will be transported to Jaipur on November 17 for funeral rites at a local village in Ghanau Sadulpur, district Churu, on November 18.

"It has been found that overspeeding, irresponsible, reckless, and drunk driving, etc. are important contributing factors in majority of the fatal incidents," EJH SP Jagpal Singh Dhanoa recently said to media.

The district police has urged the general public, particularly young drivers of both four and two wheel vehicles, to refrain from reckless and dangerous driving while on the road because it endangers not only the lives of the drivers and passengers inside the vehicle but also the lives of other commuters and pedestrians.

In addition, Meghalaya has a lot of accident-prone "dark areas" that are very common. On such dangerous sites, the government has still implemented extra safety precautions. Historically, road traffic accidents have occurred more often in certain areas, known as accident black spots.
