SHILLONG: The government of Meghalaya is still awaiting an official response from the Hungarian Embassy to facilitate the repatriation of Hungarian tourist Puskas Zsolt, who went missing on March 29 and was found dead in the Shella region.

Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang, on Sunday, confirmed that there has been no communication from Hungarian authorities regarding the future course of action.

"We have not yet heard from the Hungarian authorities," she said, pointing to the delay in taking forward official proceedings for the deceased.

Zsolt's body was found by the local authorities on April 10 after a large-scale search operation. After recovery, the body was taken to the Shillong Civil Hospital, where it is still stored in the morgue pending instructions from the Hungarian government or its embassy.

It is believed, as per the initial findings of a magistrate's inquest, that Zsolt passed away after slipping from a slope in the area.

The body was said to have several injuries typical of a fall from a great height, indicating that the tourist had probably lost his footing while traversing the hilly terrain.
