Meghalaya Club reportedly makes 'official bid' for Lionel Messi; Check facts here

Guwahati: After 20 seasons at Barcelona, 17 in the first team, after 34 trophies and 634 goals, the talismanic Argentine Lionel Messi is looking to quit the Spanish giants and speculation is rife as to where Messi is headed next to continue his football career.

Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus are said to be keeping an eye on the striker for upcoming seasons and the 32-year-old's legions of fans are waiting with bated breath for more updates on his transfer.

It recently came to light that in Northeast India's Meghalaya, the unheralded Ryntih Sports Club could made an official bid for the striker. In a message that was being widely circulated online, the club ha reportedly said that it is in "pole position to get this deal done by the second week of September."

The baffling statement apparently made by the club, which is one of the bigger clubs in Meghalaya reads: "We have made an official bid for Lionel Messi and talks have been held with the player and his agent. The Club is in pole position to get this deal done by the second week of September. The Club representative will be flying to Calatan in the next coming days, Messi has spoken highly of Mawlai people and their passion towards football and promise the I-League and Shillong Premier League and willing to play some local tournaments."

As per the post, the club also hinted that Messi will be its "new  (number) 10."

This viral post took social media by storm and had Northeast India's football-hungry fans drooling at the prospect of Messi arriving in the hills of the Northeast Indian region to showcase his dazzling skills -- truly the stuff of dreams, isn't it?

However, the joy of Northeast Indian football fans was short-lived as the club later clarified that the post was made by a miscreant who had used the club's logo to make the shocking claim on Twitter.

Lashing out on Facebook against this miscreant, the club wrote, "An unauthorized person used the Club's name and logo to make a mockery of the Club and try to malign and tarnish the Club's image by posting and promoting at different social media platforms. We request all citizens of the state to refrain from any kind of activities which has not been issued by the Club's official account. From the Club we have lodged an FIR regarding this issue. We hope this will enlighten and uplift the spirit of true sportsmanship and humanitarianism."

Later, the culprit responsible for the controversial post visited the club's office where he apologized for his actions. "The Club has accepted the apology and ensured that a good relationship is maintained between both the parties," Ryntih Sports Club said in a statement released moments earlier.

Meanwhile, the club has requested individuals and well-wishers who have a copy of the message to delete it and "not to use the Club's name and logo for official purposes."
