Meghalaya: CM Conrad Sangma Hands Over Land for National Law University Campus
SHILLONG: In a pivotal moment for the state's academic and economic future, Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, officially transferred land for the establishment of the National Law University's permanent campus and the State Judicial Academy. Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee of the Meghalaya High Court received the symbolic key to the future of legal education in the state.
During his address at the momentous event, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma underscored the state government's unwavering commitment to transforming Meghalaya's economy from an extractive model to a regenerative one. He articulated the core principle that a regenerative economy places a significant emphasis on human capital. Accordingly, the state is taking resolute steps to invest in its human resources, recognizing their paramount role in shaping Meghalaya's future. Chief Minister Sangma passionately stressed that India, being a youthful nation, must harness the incredible potential of its youth to contribute positively to the nation's overall growth.
Chief Minister Sangma also emphasized the crucial importance of providing the youth with platforms for productive citizenship, underlining the government's proactive efforts to enhance the state's infrastructure for higher and professional education. He further highlighted the need for educational and professional institutions to collaborate closely with the government to address various challenges. The Chief Minister suggested that students, even during their educational journey, can make meaningful contributions to government initiatives through research, analysis, and documentation.
In his stirring speech, Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee placed great emphasis on creating an environment conducive to effective learning. He noted that the university's role goes beyond merely imparting knowledge from textbooks; it must also equip students with practical tools and methods for real-world application.
The historic event was attended by esteemed members of the Meghalaya High Court, the Vice Chancellor of the National Law University, Meghalaya, Professor Indrajit Dube, the Secretary of the Law Department, C V Diengdoh, and the Member Secretary of the New Shillong Township Development Agency, E Kharmalki. State Law Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and State Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma were also present, highlighting the government's collective commitment to nurturing the next generation of legal scholars and professionals while fostering a regenerative economic model for the state of Meghalaya.
