
SHILLONG: The Budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will commence on February 28 and will run until March 13, with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma set to present the state budget on March 5. The decision was finalized during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting on Thursday.
Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma confirmed that out of the total session days, three will be allocated for Private Members’ Business, while the remaining seven will be reserved for Government Business.
The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma, legislators Charles Pyngrope and Lahkmen Rymbui, along with senior government officials. As per the calendar finalized by the BAC, the budget session will commence with the Governor’s address on the opening day.
Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma stated that while only three days have been allotted for private members’ business, all participants will have ample opportunity to engage in discussions. “If required, we can extend the session, including Fridays, to accommodate debates,” he added.
The debate on the Governor’s address will take place on March 3 and March 5, followed by the chief minister’s reply. Private members’ business, including the tabling of bills, motions, and resolutions, will be conducted on March 4, 6, and 11.
On March 7, the House will vote on the Supplementary Demands for Grants and pass the Meghalaya Appropriation (No. I) Bill, 2025. The general discussion on the budget is scheduled for March 10.
