SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Sunday launched the Rs 47.19 crore “Megh Adapt Pay” initiative and formally inaugurated the Rs 500 crore Climate Adaptive Community-Based Water Harvesting Project, supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), during a public event at Mendipathar in North Garo Hills.
“The project will be implemented across all districts of Meghalaya to enhance water resilience and sustainability,” the Chief Minister said, underlining the government’s commitment to advancing climate action and climate adaptation goals through community-led interventions.
Megh Adapt Pay, implemented by the Soil and Water Conservation Department, aims to drive afforestation, conserve existing forests, and develop agricultural land as part of the broader climate-adaptive water initiative. “Through this project, the community and government will forge a partnership to help protect forests, restore degraded lands, improve ecosystem health, rehabilitate catchment areas, and expand green cover across the state,” CM Sangma stated.
