Meghalaya CM Inaugurates Hima Mawphlang Office, Announces Development Plans

SHILLONG: In a historic event, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma opened the office building of Hima Mawphlang at Lumryngkew Mawiong in Mawphlang. He pointed out that even though Hima Mawphlang has been preserving sacred traditions for almost 1,000 years, it never had an office before, making this inauguration an important milestone.

Sangma described Hima Mawphlang as an essential heritage of the people, embodying the rich culture, tradition, and identity of the region. He assured the sanction of funds to support the infrastructure needs of the office.

Praising Mawphlang village as a popular tourist destination, known for its Sacred Grove and Heritage Village, the Chief Minister announced Rs. 25 Crore funding under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme to develop a tourism center and enhance the infrastructure in the Sacred Grove area.

Sangma also showed his support for education by announcing that new posts had been approved for Mawphlang Science & Commercial College, and classes will start this year. He also announced Rs. 1 Lakh for Mawphlang Secondary School and Rs. 1 Lakh for Sh. Pynshailang Lyngdoh and his group. Pynshailang Lyngdoh and his group purchased musical instruments.

Sangma encouraged Hima Mawphlang to document its rich heritage to preserve it for future generations and share it with the world. To support this, he offered the Chief Minister’s Research Grant for conducting research on Mawphlang’s heritage.

Earlier, On Tuesday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma laid the foundation stone for a new Secretariat building at Umsawli, New Shillong, to celebrate the state’s 53rd Statehood Day. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, along with Cabinet Ministers Abu Taher Mondal, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Marcuise Marak, and Comingone Ymbon. This marked an important step in the state’s development.
