SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the Block Integrated Development Complex at the Mairang C&RD Block Office and a slew of upgraded healthcare facilities at Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital, Mairang, promising “essential services closer to the people” and “equitable development across all districts.”
The hospital now houses a Sick New Born Care Unit (SNCU), Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU)—facilities aimed at cutting down the need for patients to travel long distances for critical treatment.
“It is only fitting that changemakers and respected role models from the community lead such significant milestones. Bah Marborsing’s presence today reflects our collective commitment to people-centric governance and inclusive development,” Sangma said, referring to traditional artist and North East Young Talent Artistes Awardee Marborsing Marbaniang, who was present at the event.
Announcing fresh investments, Sangma revealed plans for a new DC office in Mairang, a district convention centre, better street lighting, the Shillong Secretariat Project in Mawdiangdiang, tourism projects under CM Elevate, support for traditional institutions like Hima Nongklaw, and expansion of PMAY (Awas Plus) to 2.8 lakh more beneficiaries.
“With over Rs 2,500 crore sanctioned for administrative infrastructure, we are not only strengthening governance mechanisms but also bringing administration closer to the people. The inauguration of the Mairang Block Office marks another step forward in our mission to upgrade all Block Offices across the state,” he added.
Health Minister Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh called the day “the continuation of a vision for accessible healthcare across Meghalaya,” praising the medical team for its commitment.
MLA and State Planning Board Chairman Metbah Lyngdoh pushed for “infrastructure upgrades, including road enhancement and lighting improvements,” while C&RD Minister Abu Taher Mondal lauded “the importance of collaborative governance” in making such milestones possible. Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri underlined how “integrated development boosts both health and youth-related outcomes.”
Dr. Kharsahnoh noted that the new critical care units will “reduce infant and maternal mortality rates, lower healthcare costs, and make specialized care more accessible to local residents as well as those in neighboring districts.”
