SHILLONG: In an effort to garner support from the people of the Jaintia Hills region for the upcoming MDC elections, Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP National President, Conrad K. Sangma, announced plans to establish a Government Nursing College in Jowai, the headquarters of West Jaintia Hills District.

The Chief Minister presented the Meghalaya Excellence Awards to the exceptional employees of the State Government. Sangma requested the gathering to honor the legacy of the forefathers, who united for the future of Meghalaya.

While launching the Meghalaya State Anthem, Sangma remarked that the revised anthem beautifully celebrates the diversity of Meghalaya’s tribes and their unity. Sangma shared with the gathering the news of the foundation laying for the historic Meghalaya Secretariat, a project aimed at facilitating the planned expansion of Shillong city.

He highlighted the achievements of the current government including introducing the first State Anthem, establishing the first State University, unveiling the first State Emblem, and inaugurating the first 5-star hotel. He also emphasized significant progress in infrastructure development, mentioning the addition of four new 5-star hotels in the state.

The Chief Minister recognized the contributions of Hill State leaders, former Chief Ministers, and retired government officials, acknowledging their years of service that have shaped the Meghalaya of today.

Sangma made the announcement on Tuesday during the 53rd Meghalaya Day statehood celebration held at the District Auditorium in Jowai.
