SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Congress has announced that it will go for fresh faces in the forthcoming Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) elections, to be held on February 21.

Congress leader Manuel Badwar said the party is looking to bring in new talent to nurture future policymakers. According to Badwar, this move is aimed at fostering leadership capable of evolving into skilled statesmen to contribute to the district council's development.

While reiterating innovation to the forum, Badwar clarified that experienced candidates would still be part of the Congress lineup. That kind of mix - fresh perspectives coupled with seasoned leadership - is expected to enhance the party's appeal and strengthen its vision for change.

"Our goal is to deliver a credible alternative that represents change and good governance," Badwar said, noting the Congress' bid to be relevant and trustworthy in the minds of voters.

The elections for the KHADC and JHADC are considered a very crucial opportunity for the Congress party to reassert its position in the state's political landscape, especially as the party would want to respond to changing local governance challenges.

The Congress hopes to get its image refurbished by fusing new faces with seasoned politicians and consolidating a great deal of reforms in the autonomous district councils. It will be a test for the party to merge its new strategy with the aspirations of the electorate in the coming elections.
