SHILLONG: Global music star Ed Sheeran thrilled thousands of his fans during his first concert in Shillong, which was a milestone show as the biggest international concert to take place in Northeast India. Excited fans waited for hours in queues that stretched from JN Stadium to the Polo area to watch the Grammy award-winning singer live on stage.
Wearing a custom-made "Shillong" t-shirt, Sheeran played his unique music on a loop station, constructing each song in the moment. "Nothing is pre-recorded," he assured the audience, demonstrating his intricate process of layering beats, melodies, and harmonies to construct his songs live.
The concert kicked off with the upbeat anthem "Castle on the Hill" and featured a fantastic setlist of hits such as "Shivers," "Perfect," and "Photograph." When the opening chords of "Perfect" echoed in the stadium, the crowd's loud singing almost overpowered Sheeran's voice. Inspired by the energy, he said, "Shillong, you are by far the loudest audience."
The night started with an opening performance by Kayan, who sang songs such as "Cool Kids" and an acoustic rendition of "Iris," which provided a lively atmosphere for the night. The concert is a part of Sheeran's + – = ÷ x Tour, following shows in Bengaluru, with his final performance in Delhi NCR on February 15. Looking back at his early work, Sheeran spoke about his song "The A Team," which he penned at the age of 18, talking about his early aspirations.
