Meghalaya: First Government Engineering College Inaugurated By CM Sangma

SHILLONG: Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, on Monday officially opened the state's first government engineering college, Shillong Government College of Engineering. Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) took on the project, which cost Rs 26 crore to complete and was built in the Mawlai region.

In his speech, the chief minister stated that the youth have been the focus of his administration for the past five years, and as a result, a number of programmes have been launched.

According to him, the government has interviewed and researched over 90,000 young people and has developed a plan to harness their potential. He added that this research had been used to guide other government initiatives in the fields of entrepreneurship, sports, and music.

The chief minister said, "Youth is an asset and power we have; if we harness their energy in the proper manner, we can assure that Meghalaya can be the best state in the country, as the youth will play a crucial part in guiding the destiny of our state."

According to him, "if we aim to elevate learning in our 20s, we will not be able to achieve the best, thus the government has begun programmes that assure adequate nourishment of a child and early education in a systematic manner." The chief minister declared that the government will continue to prioritise investing in the development of human capital for the progress of Meghalaya.

A total of 30 students can enrol in each of the three technical degree programmes offered by the engineering college: civil engineering, electrical engineering, and mining engineering. 36 teaching positions and 19 non-teaching positions total of 55 new positions created by the government.
