NONGPOH: The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), North Khasi Hills District, met with Dr. D. Blah, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Nongpoh, to voice concerns over inadequate healthcare facilities impacting the general public.

The organization acted after receiving numerous complaints about the hospital’s inability to handle even minor medical cases, which are often referred to private hospitals due to the lack of essential equipment, including X-ray machines, CT scanners, ultrasound machines, and other critical resources expected in a district-level hospital. Led by General Secretary Ricky Majaw, the FKJGP emphasized the urgency of addressing the hospital’s deficiencies, particularly the non-functional state of the Trauma Centre.

“The Trauma Centre is vital for the people of Ri Bhoi District, especially because of the district’s strategic location along the National Highway and its role as the gateway to the state capital. It is unacceptable for such a critical facility to remain non-functional,” Majaw said.

They highlighted the significance of the Trauma Centre, noting its potential to serve the people of Ri Bhoi District, especially given the district’s location along the National Highway and its importance as the gateway to the state capital. The FKJGP urged the hospital administration to take immediate action to resolve these issues and ensure access to proper healthcare services for the public.
