SHILLONG: The state government has ordered the opening of shops in Shillong urban agglomeration and rural areas of East Khasi Hills district albeit in a controlled environment maintaining Covid norms.

An order has been issued in this regard on August 22 (Sunday). Here are the points stated in order.

1. Identified shops dealing in essential commodities as notified by the Incident Commanders under each Zone in Shillong Urban Agglomeration and Sub Divisional Officers (Civil)/Block Development Officers in Rural area will open not more than five times a week. Days of opening. will be decided by the Sub Divisional Officer (CivilyBlock Development Officer/ Incident Commander in consultation with the CCMTS concerned.

2. Permission to non-essential shops may be given to open each up to four times a week, on days to be decided and as per regulation of the Sub Divisional Officer (Civil)/Block Development Officer/ Incident Commander concerned in consultation with the CCMTS.

3. Shops may open from 9 am to 5 pm every day and will remain closed on Sundays.

4. Shops and market areas in the Lewduh area will be regulated via separate orders.

5. Shopping malls, complexes may open but this should be done according to the incident commander concerned's recommendation.

6. Book shops, stationery shops, and cyber cafes may open five days a week. These five days are - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

7. Teer counters and archery may open four days a week. These days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

8. For restaurants, tea shops, sweet shops, and bakeries, the takeaway is permitted till 5 pm on all opening days. No dine-in is permitted.

9. All shops will place a prominent sign poster indicating the vaccination status of the shopkeepers and staff at the shop premises.

10. Home-delivery of items, whenever possible, by shops is encouraged.

11. Ensuring the adherence to Covid protocols will be the responsibility of the headmen, market committee, and CCMTs.

12. Shopkeepers and the public should strictly adhere to Covid protocols (like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing) while making their purchases.
