

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced that the central government has disbursed the final installment of Rs 85.08 crore under the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students on Friday.
This funding is set to be credited to the students' accounts within the next one to two days.
This third and final payment will benefit 27,327 students for the 2023-2024 academic year, completing a disbursement process that commenced in June. The scholarship funds were distributed in three phases throughout the year.
The first installment of Rs 42.32 crore was released on June 24, 2024, aiding 17,364 students, followed by a second payment of Rs 66.67 crore on November 20, 2024, which reached 32,064 students.
In total, 76,755 students applied for the scholarship program, which operates under the “Umbrella Scheme of Post Matric Scholarship for ST Students.” Chief Minister Sangma reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing and expediting the scholarship process annually to ensure timely support for students.
Apart from the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme, the Meghalaya government also launched other programs to help students, such as the Meghalaya CM Scholarship Scheme to offer financial support to 80,000 post-matriculated students throughout the state. These initiatives portray the government's continued commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for Meghalaya's youth.
