Government has sanctioned Rs 3 crore for the construction of a prefab structure for the entry-point as well as the check gate for registration and screening of COVID-19.

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday informed that the entry-point at Umling of Ri Bhoi district where the check gate for COVID-19 will be shifted is all set to be made operational by December 15.

Speaking to media persons, Tynsong said that the Meghalaya government has already sanctioned Rs.3 crore for the prefab structure and the construction work has already begun.


He further said that the entry point was earlier de-sanctioned as the original sanction for the project was over Rs.15 crores. He also said that, during the land development work, it was found that the area had a rocky bed which would have required additional time and money.

Once the entry point is completed, it would function as the checkpoint for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, a PWD official expressed faith that the department was projecting to complete the work in the next 45 days and said that the entry point will be having emergency rooms for the Health Department, staff rooms, rooms for magistrates, and other departments.
