EAST JAINTIA HILLS: The East Jaintia Hills District in Meghalaya will enforce a sectional blockade on National Highway 6 on December 3. This will cause traffic diversion between Lumshnong and Malidor.

This is part of an infrastructure maintenance initiative that falls under the purview of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

The DDMA has issued an official advisory that states that vehicles will not be allowed to enter the highway stretch from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. This is done in order to carry out extensive construction, renovation, and repair work on the highway that is highly used. However, during the restricted hours, emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass so that essential services are not affected.

To reduce the inconvenience, commuters are advised to prepare alternative routes and essential supplies in advance. Traffic personnel will be deployed to direct the drivers along the designated detour paths for smoother travel despite the restrictions.

Key Closure Details:

Date: December 3

Affected Route: Lumshnong to Malidor

Restricted Hours: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

While undertaking this operation, the authorities have stressed the need to be more cautious and sensitive in areas with construction in operation, especially in the surroundings of bridges and culverts. The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills, said that the works done at this time were essential to ensure the highway's future safety and durability as the highway is an important component of the transport network.

Local people and visitors are requested to cooperate with the traffic management staff and follow the advisory so that the work is carried out smoothly. Officials also suggest checking the real-time traffic updates and planning travel in advance to avoid inconvenience.

Through such proactive measures, the district administration will look to improve the safety and durability of the highway, making it a safe route for many years.
