SHILLONG: In a decisive strike against the narcotics trade, the East Jaintia Hills Police on the evening of May 5, 2025, seized 14 soap boxes containing heroin following a swift operation based on credible intelligence. The contraband was intercepted during a targeted effort to dismantle inter-state drug trafficking networks.

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Gouri Das, 56, from Silchar town, Cachar district, Assam, and Safiqul Alam, 36, from Cachar, Assam. A criminal case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the broader nexus involved in the smuggling operation.

“We remain firm in our commitment to rid our society of the drug menace,” the East Jaintia Hills Police stated. “Citizens are urged to continue supporting us by reporting any suspicious activities.”
