
AIZAWL: Three persons were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Mizoram on Friday in connection with a trans-border arms and ammunition trafficking case.
The arrested accused have been identified as Lalrinchhunga, Vanlaldailova & Lalmuanpuia and the trio were nabbed following extensive searches at six locations in Mizoram in the case registered as RC-31/2023/NIA/DLI.
The apprehended individuals were found to be linked with the previously arrested accused and suspects, and were actively involved in the explosives, weapons and ammunitions trafficking network.
Mammit, Serchip and Aizawl districts in Mizoram were identified as the target locations, which included a gunhouse as well.
A large number of weapons, ammunitions, explosives, weapons manufacturing equipment and tools, digital devices and other incriminating materials were seized during the searches, carried out as part of NIA’s ongoing investigations into the case.
The NIA had registered the case under relevant sections of IPC, UA (P) Act, Explosive Substances Act 1908 and Arms Act at New Delhi on 26th December 2023.
NIA had started investigating the matter on the basis of inputs that some Mizoram-based entities were engaged in an illegal business and running a syndicate involved in the trafficking of arms, ammunition, explosive, etc.
The agency is continuing with its investigations to unravel the conspiracy behind the arms and explosives trafficking in Mizoram and other north-eastern states.
