SHILLONG: Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Wednesday issued a strong statement following the recent terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, underlining the state government’s heightened security efforts and unequivocal condemnation of the violence.
“We have already upped the ante on the part of the government, and we are now very vigilant. We are in constant touch with the BSF; the chief minister has met the DG; I have met him separately, and we are also going for more recruitment to the state police. As you are aware, the three thousand vacancies in the police force will be filled up, so wherever there are areas where there are gaps in ensuring the safety of citizens, we are coordinating with central forces, especially the BSF, which has a vast presence in Meghalaya,” Lyngdoh stated.
Describing the attack as both shocking and unacceptable, the minister expressed deep anguish over the targeting of innocent visitors. “This was an inhumane act and unexpected, and to target visitors who were actually contributing to the revenue of that particular state is beyond my ability to comprehend. We stand together as a nation, and as the state government, we extend our full support to the union government in its attempt to thwart the upsurge of insurgency and terrorism in that particular area.”
The people of Shillong, united in grief and outrage, have also condemned the brutal assault, standing in solidarity with the victims and reaffirming a collective stand against terrorism.
