SHILLONG: Meghalaya, on Monday, recorded 71 new cases and 117 new recoveries in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of active cases has come down to 1,009 and the total recovered cases have gone up to 8,579, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War.

Of the new cases, 36 were reported from West Jaintia Hills; 29 from East Khasi Hills; two each from Ri-Bhoi and West Garo Hills; one each from East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills.

Of the new recovered cases, 83 were recorded in East Khasi Hills; 14 in Ri-Bhoi; eight in South Garo Hills; five each in West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills; and one each in East Jaintia Hills and North Garo Hills.

With the number of recoveries going up in East Khasi Hills, the total active cases here has come down to 327 (Armed & paramilitary forces: 24; civilians: 303).

Dr War also said that the active cases are on the downswing in East Khasi Hills since citizens have become more aware of the protocols of social distancing, wearing of masks and sanitising of hands. He, however, said that there is a spike in other districts of the State.

According to the Director of Health Services, the samples tested till date are 2,03,556 of which 1, 93, 878 tested negative. The number of persons who entered the State till date are 54, 244.
