Meghalaya Sees 52,000 New Voters in 2025 Registration, CEO BDR Tiwari Reports

SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s electoral rolls have registered a significant increase, with the state’s voter base reaching 22,69,512 as of January 6, 2025. This marks an addition of 52,412 voters compared to the previous year’s total of 22,40,499, according to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) BDR Tiwari, who addressed the media on Monday.

The updated voter rolls reflect that the state has 11,50,599 female voters, 11,18,907 male voters, and six third-gender voters. Service voters' number 3,764 with 3,673 males and 91 females. The electoral population ratio stands at 645, while the gender ratio stands at 1,028.

Among the districts, the largest number of voters is in East Khasi Hills with 3,20,553 voters, and the smallest in South West Khasi Hills with 38,742. Also, the list comprises 72,941 voters in the 18-19 age group, 10,398 voters above 85 years of age, and 11,960 voters with disabilities.

In the most recent update, 17,096 voters were removed from the records due to duplication, changes in address, and deceased voters. Out of the 32,500 correctional applicants, 31,372 were accepted.

Polling stations have been slightly increased to 3,551 from 3,512 in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The process of preparing the voter rolls for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council elections comes under the purview of the Department of District Council Affairs, as opposed to that of the state's election department.
