Shillong: The true spirit of Christmas came alive through a heartwarming celebration organized by SPARK, which brought joy and hope to around 400 underprivileged children from diverse backgrounds. The children, including slum dwellers, child labourers, rag pickers, domestic helpers, and street children from East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi Districts, experienced a day filled with kindness, love, and happiness.
The event began with a Special Prayer Service, where the children themselves led prayers for God’s blessings and global peace. Following this, Shima Modak, president and founder of SPARK, addressed the gathering.
She emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “Programmes like these are vital in making a meaningful difference in the lives of distressed children. They bring love, unity, and joy into their lives, which is the true essence of Christmas.”
She also extended her heartfelt Christmas and New Year wishes to all. One of the key highlights of the celebration was the vibrant performances by the children. These acts provided the young participants with a platform to showcase their talents and express themselves, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and delight. Reflecting on the success of the event, Modak remarked, “These performances are not just about entertainment; they are moments of empowerment, offering the children a chance to feel valued and included in the festive spirit.”
The celebration was a resounding success, creating unforgettable memories for the children, many of whom had never experienced such festivities before. The event was made possible by the unwavering support of caring individuals and community members who joined hands with SPARK to bring joy and hope to these young lives.
This initiative by SPARK exemplifies how compassion and collective effort can transform lives, embodying the true meaning of Christmas—spreading love, hope, and happiness to those in need.
