Meghalaya Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh lauds peoples’ support in the fight against COVID-19

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh thanked the people of the State for supporting the government in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Speaker while addressing a meeting in his constituency in Mairang, informed that the nationwide lockdown was imposed on March 24 to “save lives”.

The Speaker also said that as a legislator, he was aware of the hardships people have been facing in the wake of the lockdown, but emphasised the need to abide by social distancing norms.

He also said that if the people of the State ignores or does not follow the guidelines and regulations put in place by the State government to combat COVID-19, then without a doubt this virus will be able to penetrate the State.

While urging the State government and village heads to make sure that no one should have to face hunger in this time of crises, he said, “The entire country is under lockdown for 21 days and the government and traditional heads should make sure that those people from underprivileged families does not go hungry.”
