
GUWAHATI: A tragic incident unfolded on December 23 at the Aradonga picnic spot, located near the Assam-Meghalaya border, when 56-year-old Gautam Ganguly tragically lost his life after slipping into a stream.
Ganguly, a resident of Hatat Colony, Rest Camp in Pandu, Guwahati, was visiting the popular site with a picnic group in Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills District.
Local residents found Ganguly's body in a nearby stream and promptly notified the police. Samuel Sangma, the in-charge of the Athiabari Police Outpost, swiftly arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to Riangdo for a post-mortem examination. Sangma confirmed that Ganguly had slipped and fallen into the stream while walking nearby, resulting in his tragic death.
According to Lakhi Nandan Boro, the in-charge of Hahim Police Outpost, Ganguly was part of a group of around 60 people from Adabari, Guwahati, who had traveled to Aradonga for a picnic organized by their departmental store. While the group was busy preparing food, Ganguly wandered off and was later discovered in the stream by local residents.
Aradonga, a popular picnic destination, is located in the West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya, near Assam’s Kamrup District. The area is renowned for its picturesque scenery, including mountains, trees, and streams. The Aradonga stream flows into the Singra river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra.
