SHILLONG: The central body of the 'Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association' (MUPSTA) has taken a decision to stage a sit-in-demonstration on December 17 near the All India Radio, Shillong (Opposite the Governor Office Shillong).

This decision by MUPSTA was taken at a meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) held on 8 December at Shillong.

EG War, Organising Cum Publicity Secretary MUPSTA Central Body said,"We have taken this decision because the government has stayed silent on our demands to upgrade to deficit school of all 844 Adhoc Upper Primary School in Meghalaya."

He said the government in 2018, in a meeting at a Teachers Conference held in Asanang, Tura, West Garo Hills had assured them that Adhoc Upper Primary School will be upgraded to deficit, however till date the government has not taken any steps to frutify their demands.

The association has also slammed the statement made by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui who had said that the government will not be able upgrade all Adhoc Upper Primary School in Meghalaya into deficit school.

"We urge all our members to come out in unity on the day of the agitation to put pressure on the government to execute our demands," he said.
