Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Secretary D P Wahlang has dismissed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's claim that the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) issues fake degrees, stating there is "no question" of such allegations being true.

"USTM is a state university. As far as we are concerned, it is mandated by the State Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya. The degrees are recognized by the UGC and the Medical Council. Therefore, there is no question of it being fake. It is a genuine university and is supported by the Government of Meghalaya," Wahlang said.

Sarma, once again targeting USTM, alleged on Sunday that the university has been "issuing fake certificates and degrees" to students. The Assam Chief Minister made the allegation before mediapersons while addressing concerns over the university's "increasing financial liabilities of late."
