Shillong: The cultural grandeur of Northeast India will shine on the global stage at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, scheduled from May 1 to May 4 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. As part of the highly anticipated WAVES Culturals & Concerts segment, all eight north-eastern states will present an enthralling four-day celebration of heritage and performance.

Curated under the theme “Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries,” the programme promises a deep dive into the region’s artistic richness. Leading the showcase from Meghalaya is the traditional Wangala dance, a powerful and rhythmic tribute to the sun god, performed by the Garo community with beating drums and vibrant attire—an evocative nod to agrarian roots and spiritual traditions.

Assam will bring the elegance of the Sattriya dance, presented by the Sattriya Kendra, Guwahati, while Arunachal Pradesh enchants with the peacock-inspired Kaa Kingnara Kingnari. The cultural spectrum continues with the celebratory Gumrag dance, Mizoram’s iconic Cheraw (bamboo dance), Tripura’s Hojagiri, Sikkim’s Tamang Selo and Singhi Chham, and the martial grace of Manipur’s Manipuri and Thang-ta performances.

Nagaland will open the festivities with the acclaimed Tetseo Sisters singing Li folk songs in the Chokri dialect, joined by Lotha Naga women in a collective performance titled Nzanta, blending tradition with contemporary expression.

WAVES 2025 is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the Ministry of Culture, the Government of Maharashtra, and international partners including YouTube, Spotify, and BookMyShow. The summit reinforces India’s commitment to promoting cultural exchange and creative collaboration on a global platform. A detailed day-wise schedule of performances will be made available in the event calendar.
