Shillong: In a proactive move to enhance road safety and reduce traffic violations, Ri Bhoi Police on Wednesday organized a lane discipline awareness programme for truck drivers at Seri-culture along National Highway-06.

The programme focused on educating heavy vehicle operators about the importance of staying in the left lane, especially on national highways, and adhering strictly to traffic regulations. Officers emphasized that improper lane driving by trucks not only leads to frequent accidents but also causes major traffic congestion on this vital commercial route.

Truck drivers were instructed to maintain proper speed limits, avoid overtaking in risky zones, and follow all traffic signage. Police officials also warned that strict enforcement measures would follow for repeated violations. The awareness campaign is part of the district police’s broader road safety initiative, aimed at reducing mishaps on NH-06, a highway that sees high volumes of freight traffic round the clock.
