SHILLONG: In a positive move, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has made an announcement of shifting exam centres for most students from Meghalaya from Guwahati to Shillong. The decision comes at the request of the state government and is expected to ease students of the ordeal of traveling long distances to appear for exams.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced the news on X (formerly known as Twitter), thanking NTA officials and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their cooperation. The shift came after CM Sangma's request on March 17 to the Ministry of Education and the NTA, where he brought to the fore the logistical and financial challenges of students allotted examination centres in Assam.

The initial allocation of exam centres outside Meghalaya raised significant concerns, particularly among students from remote areas who would have encountered challenges in traveling to Guwahati. In response, several student organizations advocated for local examination centres in Shillong and other major towns within the state. The state education department also raised the issue to the relevant authorities.

The NTA's relocation of the examination centers to Shillong is a clear indication of the state government's willingness to address its students' grievances. With the new setup, students are able to prepare for their exams in more peace of mind, knowing that they will not have to cover long distances to get to their exam centers.
