Plantation drive of 1,000 saplings at Laitkor Garrison of Assam Rifles by Assam Rifles and the Meghalaya Forest Department

SHILLONG: A plantation drive was organized jointly by Assam Rifles and the Meghalaya Forest Department wherein 1,000 saplings were planted at Laitkor Garrison of Assam Rifles.

The event also marked the commemoration of 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. All ranks of Assam Rifles including children actively participated in the plantation drive and pledged to improve the ecology and environment of Meghalaya.

While addressing the gathering, CP Marak, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Maj Gen Balwinder Singh, Additional Director General of Assam Rifles, reiterated and emphasized the importance of trees to improve the ecology and environment.

Assam Rifles Public School children who participated in the Painting Competition on the theme “Plant More Trees” were also felicitated during the event.
