SHILLONG: Pressure groups from Mawsynram and also the local Congress MLA, HM Shangpliang have reiterated their demand for creation of a Civil Sub Division. The delegation made their demand during a meeting with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at his office chamber on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Shangpliang said, ''The Chief Minister was very positive in his approach. He said that he would be examining the matter.''
He also said the Chief Minister told them that there are many demands for creation of Civil Sub Divisions in the State.
At the meeting Shangpliang told the Chief Minister, not much funds would be required if Civil Sub Division is considered for Mawsynram for the reason that there is already a lot of infrastructure in the area.
"It has an SDO (PHE) Office, SDO (MeECL), it has two SDO (PWDs). We also have the Brahmaputra Board and Central Water Commission offices," Shangpliang said. According to the MLA, the headmen of Mawsynram area who accompanied the delegation also assured to provide land for construction of the complex of the Civil Sub-Division.
"Therefore, there would not be much financial implications if a Sub Division is declared for Mawsynram," Shangpliang pointed out.
According to the legislator, the Chief Minister told the delegation that all these factors will be taken into account while the list for consideration of Civil Sub Divisions is mulled.
