SHILLONG: Ahmed Hussain, a renowned photographer from Shillong, died on Wednesday at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) at the age of 91. Hussain was a well-known personality in the city's art and culture scene, famous for establishing Karuz Studio, which became the fulcrum of photography in the city.

Hussain's origin dates back deep into Shillong, as his family has lived there for over 150 years. They have been known to initiate the first passenger motor service in the then undivided Assam under the British Raj, and it facilitated the region's development and connectivity.

A widower, Hussain remained actively engaged in social initiatives throughout his life. He is survived by his daughter and son, who continue to honor his legacy. The funeral procession for Ahmed Hussain is scheduled for April 3 and it will take place between 1:30 PM and 2 PM from his residence.

The Keating Road Welfare Organisation has sent its condolences over Hussain's death, noting his family's immense contribution to the development of Shillong, especially in the improvement of transport services between Shillong and Guwahati. His death comes as a loss of a beloved member of society, whose contribution to the arts and local history will be remembered.
