Ri-Bhoi Police Arrest Man for Brutal Assault on Female Airport Employee

SHILLONG: Ri-Bhoi police arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly beating up a woman airport staffer near Umroi Airport on Wednesday morning.

The accused Kyrshanlang Marngar, resident of Dongrudwah, Nongrah, Umroi, allegedly assaulted 27-year-old Ellana Lyngdoh Mawphalang while she was going to work.

The police reported that Marngar struck the victim on the road leading to the airport using a smashed beer bottle and a rock. The attack rendered her gravely injured, with an immediate intervention by eyewitnesses and authorities.

The critically injured victim was first brought to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Bhoirymbong for initial medical treatment. But since the injuries were too severe, she was subsequently referred to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, for further treatment.

After the incident, the police quickly filed a case and initiated an inquiry. Although the motive of the attack is still a mystery, the authorities are conducting an inquiry and questioning the accused to find out the circumstances that led to the assault.

The arrest of Marngar has raised issues regarding safety in the region, particularly for women traveling to work. Police authorities have guaranteed that the case would be investigated to the fullest to deliver justice to the victim.
