MEGHALAYA : An ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs has been announced by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Meghalaya for each of the victims families in Mukroh firing incident. The TMC leader Mukul Sangma made this announcement on Wednesday.

Sangma stated that, Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia support will be provided to the families of deceased in the Assam-Meghalaya firing incident. He further mentioned that, TMC will provide complete support to the victims and the party will stand with the people who faced the Mukroh firing tragedy. Sangma also ordered that the culprits in the firing incidents must be arrested and surrendered to the Meghalaya's legal authority.

The TMC leader demanded that, as per the law of the state, Assam government must hand over the people to Meghalaya those who were involved in the firing. CM Conrad Sangma-led cabinet delegation visited family members of the victims on 23rd of November. Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong, PHE minister Renikton Lyngdoh, urban affairs minister Snaiwbhalang Dhar and social welfare minister Kyrmen Shylla accompanied Sangma.

The minister sympathised with everyone in the gathering and mentioned that the state has canceled all government functions and festivals in order to show unity and respect to the people of Mukroh. Sangma also consoled the public who were a part of protesting pressure groups and promised them that justice will be served to the victims.

He shared that both Assam and Meghalaya government has requested the Central government to do a thorough investigation by NIA or CBI, regarding the incident. Five civilians from Meghalaya allegedly lost their lives in the firing incident that took place in Mukroh village on Tuesday. Sangma also told the pressure groups that Assam government is showing its complete cooperation with Meghalaya.

He continued by saying that the SP of West Karbi Anglong district in Assam has been transferred out in some other district and concerned OC and forest officials has been suspended. On 24th November, a meeting will take place in Delhi with union home minister Amit Shah where Assam chief minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma will be present , informed Conrad Sangma.

Earlier, Conrad Sangma also visited the next of kin of the victims and handed over the ex-gratia cheque of Rs 5 lakh each
