Strike threat by Meghalaya EMRI workers union

A Reporter

SHILLONG: The workers of GVK EMRI, Meghalaya, organized under Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union (MEMRIWU), have given a strike notice to the management over non-fulfilment of various demands made by them.

Joseph Pyngrope, publicity secretary of MEMRIWU, said despite multiple peaceful forms of agitation being carried out in order to make their voices heard, the management instead of calling for discussions, resorted to threatening individuals and belittling their legitimate demands. Some of their demands include upgrade of the ambulances, better working hours in order to ensure safety of patients and to provide quality services, better wages and improved staffing among others. The union said that the EMRI workers would be going on strike anytime beginning two weeks after the submission of the strike notice.
