The biggest commercial hub in Meghalaya Iewduh to reopen from June 22

SHILLONG: Shops in Ïewduh, the biggest commercial hub in Meghalaya, will reopen from June 22 but on rotational basis, the State government informed on Tuesday.

During his daily briefing, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that around 1,222 shops are entitled to be reopened as per report submitted by the East Khasi Hills district administration.

It may be mentioned that Ïewduh was closed a couple of days before the nationwide lockdown.

"During the review meeting, we decided to allow the reopening of 30 to 33 per cent of the total strength in the market each day on rotational basis," the Deputy Chief Minister said.

Tynsong said that SOP protocols has to be adhered to in totality. However, fish market, meat market, vegetable market, betelnut and betel leave market and shops selling book stalls are not yet allowed.

Hawkers also are not allowed to ply their trade. He also informed that there are around 1,000 hawkers selling their wares inside the market.

Earlier, on Tuesday morning, Tynsong, the Health Minister, AL Hek, Urban Affairs Minister, Hamletson Dohling, Director of Health Service Dr Aman Warr, the Chief Executive Member of the KHADC, Titosstarwell Chyne and Executive Member, in-charge Market Grace Mary Kharpuri and Syiem of Hima Mylliem made a spot inspection of the market.
