Tourism moves to 'live and adapt' across Meghalaya amid COVID pandemic

SHILLONG: Meghalaya is looking at living and adapting with the COVID situation to revive the tourism industry that has been badly hit in the past few months. This was categorically stated by the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma after inaugurating the orchid log houses located in New Shillong township on Saturday.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration of the log houses to be run by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation, Sangma alluded to the location of these log houses that is little away from the city as a way to prepare the State to adopt with the COVID situation in future. "The idea is to work towards the future and how to adopt during the COVID and post- COVID situation", stated the Chief Minister, adding, "We need to start preparing for it and it also means to change the model, the way on how we look at tourism".

He spoke about the isolated location of these log houses, besides dwelling on the importance to up the development of infrastructure in such sites within the State.

To cater to these log houses, 25-30 people are being given soft skill training for a period of 20 days, all related to hospitality, further informed the Chief Minister.
