Shillong: In a significant breakthrough in the murder investigation of businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police has detained two more individuals from Indore in connection with the case.

Superintendent of Police (East Khasi Hills) Vivek Syiem confirmed the latest arrests, stating, “One of the detainees is a property and lease dealer who had rented out a flat to Vishal Singh Chauhan, one of the main accused. Chauhan, in turn, handed over the keys to Raj.” He added that investigators believe Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of the deceased and a co-accused, had been residing in the same flat before her arrest.

The second individual detained has been identified as Balbir Ahirbar, a security guard and carpenter from Ashok Nagar district. He is suspected to possess vital information regarding the movements of the accused and other crucial developments in the case.

Police sources revealed that CCTV footage captured the property dealer, identified as Silome James, removing a bag belonging to Sonam from the apartment after her arrest. His detention is linked to the suspected disappearance of several key items considered critical to the investigation.

“Both individuals are expected to be produced in court in Indore. Transit remand will be sought to bring them to Shillong for further legal proceedings,” the SP said.

Silome James was apprehended while attempting to flee at Bhonrasa Toll Gate in Dewas district around 7:30 pm on Friday.
