SHILLONG: World Heritage Week is celebrated every year from the November 19 to November 25 with an aim to create awareness on the importance of our historical ethnicity and to uplift and preserve our cultural heritage and monuments. To commemorate this important week, as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Meghalaya's Statehood, the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Martin Luther Christian University organized an inaugural programme under the theme 'Complex Past, Diverse Future'.

Recognizing the importance of cultural heritage as a bridge between past and future generations the students made efforts to educate about the importance of their own heritage and also to spread awareness about respecting and valuing the culture and heritage of others as well through storytelling, songs, cultural dances, showcasing of traditional attires and flash mob in the university campus. The presentation presented by the students was insightful and exceptional and participants as they learnt about the importance of preserving cultural heritage in a sustainable manner. The Department of Tourism and Travel Management will also have a heritage walk on November 24, 2021, to Nartiang Monolith Clusters and Larnai Village (village of traditional art of pottery making) to enlighten students on the responsibilities and participation in preserving and conserving these heritage sites and traditional art.
