Assam Rifles and Mizoram CID Arrest Three with Heroin Worth Rs. 9.51 Lakh

Agartala: According to an official release, three people were arrested by Assam Rifles and heroin valued at Rs 9.51 lakh was retrieved from them in Aizawl as part of a combined operation with the Mizoram Special Narcotics CID.

The discovery was made in an operation that took place on Friday. The arrested individuals are reported to be residents of Mizoram have been identified as 24-year-old Bikash Gharti , 29-year-old Ngurthanzami and 37-year-old Lalramthara.

The accused were carrying the contraband in a white polythene bag. The Special Narcotics CID (Crime), Police Station, Aizawl, Mizoram, received the full consignment and the arrested suspects for additional legal proceedings.

In a separate operation, massive areas of ganja crop spanning 16.2 hectares in the general region of the Boxanagar Forest Range under the Sonamura subdivision here in Mizoram were burnt on Friday by Assam Rifles in collaboration with the Police and Tripura Forest Service.

Assam Rifles claimed in its press release on Thursday that 16,500 cannabis plants, worth about Rs 70 lakh, were eradicated as a result of the operation.

According to a news release, earlier this week, Assam Rifles seized 10,320 kg of illicit Areca Nuts valued at around Rs 72.24 lakhs in the general area of Zote, Champhai district, Mizoram.

A combined team of Assam Rifles and representatives of the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, conducted the operation on January 4.
